The 70ft high octagonal tower stands proudly on a hill known as ‘Canker’s Knowe’. It was built by two retired stone masons; Alexander Brown (79) and Magnus Johnstone (68) they commenced the work April 1921 and finished in October 1922. According to locals the two men considered the work as their contribution to the First World War.
