A humble man of some quality
Peter F Anson (1889 - 1975) writer and artist wrote a book about life amongst the Fisherfolk on the east coast of Scotland. Portgordon is mentioned in the book and there is a nice sketch to compliment the section on the village. It's drawn by the author/artist from a vantage point on the brae just to the south of the village hall and looking toward the harbour entrance Book Title: Fishing Boats and Fisher Folk on the east coast of Scotland Author: Peter F Anson ISBN: 0460039946 The book was first published in 1930 and reprinted in 1971 Fact: Peter Anson wrote forty-seven books Interestingly a book has been written about Peter Anson. It was undertaken by Stanley Bruce and Tina Harris (Chairman and member respectively) Banffshire Maritime & Heritage Association. The book covers the life of Peter Anson in some detail and is a fitting and moving tribute to a man who cared so much for the people involved in his chosen subjects. A Modest Man
Reading this book is a humbling experience. The subject matter is easy to follow and leaves one wondering at the humility of this particular human being. Peter Anson would probably be amazed that anyone should view his life with such interest and yet this man played such an important part in providing so much for so many including forming (as co-founder) The Apostleship of the Sea which is generally known as 'Stella Maris' (Star of the Sea) catering for the spiritual, social and material needs of seafaring men throughout the world. Book Title: Back to the Sea Authors: Stanley Bruce & Tina Harris ISBN: 9781907234002 Price: £6 |
