An Introduction to Inverallochy

Inverallochy is now larger than Cairnbulg with most of the new housing development taking place there. As you drive into the two villages, Inverallochy lies to the right of the road.

The origins of Inverallochy stretches back into the mists of time but it was certainly in existance by the late 1500s.

Golf

There has been a proper golf course at Inverallochy since 1888 but there was almost certainly a few holes of sorts on the site of the current course in existance by the 1850s. Cairnbulg also had a couple of holes at this time that lay in the area that lies behind their harbour.

For the fishermen, golf was one of their main forms of relaxation and they seemed to get plenty of practice. The local golfers, this includes some from Cairnbulg, gained the reputation of being unbeatable on their home course. A claim that may have led to a challange match in 1905. The local MP organised the match between a team of 10 local golfers and a team of MPs led by the prime minister. The match was played at Sandwich. The morning session saw the fishermen narrowly beaten but after lunch, for whatever reason, they were well beaten.

The Inverallochy golf club still produce some first class golfers.
